Properties along Van Dien Avenue, Linwood Avenue, and the streets bordering Ho-Ho-Kus Brook see persistent moisture issues from the Saddle River watershed that accelerate wood decay and termite activity.

The forested ridgelines along the northern edge of the village funnel white-tailed deer—and the black-legged ticks they carry—directly into Ridgewood's residential neighborhoods. Properties backing up to wooded areas near Glenwood Road and Hawthorne Road see among the highest tick activity in Bergen County. Squirrels and raccoons routinely access attic spaces through the mature oak and maple canopy that arches over the village's historic streets. Carpenter ant colonies are active in the older homes throughout the spring and summer, particularly in any wood showing moisture damage from the village's many large shade trees. Mosquito pressure along the Saddle River and its associated wetlands is moderate through summer.
