Termite Control in Westchester, Rockland & Bergen County

Subterranean termites are widespread throughout Westchester, Rockland, and Bergen County, and the region's housing stock is particularly at risk. Older homes — the cape cods, colonials, and split-levels built through the mid-20th century that define neighborhoods in White Plains, Tarrytown, Teaneck, and Ridgewood NJ — frequently have conditions that favor termite establishment: direct wood-to-soil contact at foundations, aging sill plates, unventilated crawl spaces, and decades of accumulated cellulose debris around structures. Termites work silently for years before visible damage appears, which is why proactive inspection and protection matters. Eastern Subterranean Termites are the species responsible for virtually all termite damage in this region. They build mud tubes to travel from soil to wood, maintaining moisture as they forage through substructures, basement walls, and interior framing. Swarmer season in Westchester and Bergen County typically occurs in spring — March through May — when winged reproductives emerge to establish new colonies. Homeowners who see swarmers indoors or piles of discarded wings near windows or doors should treat this as an urgent signal that an active colony is present within or adjacent to the structure. Hello Pest Control inspects the full perimeter and accessible interior, then uses Advance always-active termite bait stations only. Service includes monitoring and replenishment of the stations.

Termite Control FAQ

How can I tell if I have termites or carpenter ants?

Both can damage wood, but the signs are different. Termites produce mud tubes (pencil-width soil tunnels along foundation walls) and damaged wood that appears hollow and has a layered, papery interior. Carpenter ants leave coarse sawdust-like frass near exit holes. Winged forms are also distinguishable: termite swarmers have equal-length wings and a straight waist, while flying ants have bent antennae and a pinched waist.

I saw swarmers inside my home. Does that mean I have termites?

Swarmers indoors — especially in spring — are a strong indicator that an active colony is present in or very close to your structure. The swarmers themselves don't cause damage, but their presence confirms a mature colony nearby. We recommend scheduling an inspection promptly.
