Flea Control in Westchester, Rockland & Bergen County

Flea infestations in Westchester, Rockland, and Bergen County are driven not just by household pets, but by the dense wildlife populations that move freely through suburban yards. Deer, raccoons, opossums, and gray squirrels — all abundant throughout the region — carry fleas into yard environments, depositing flea eggs in grass, mulch, and garden beds that then hatch and develop into pupae capable of jumping onto domestic pets (and humans) who pass through. This wildlife-to-yard-to-pet transmission cycle means that even indoor-only pets can pick up fleas that hitched indoors on a pant leg or sock. Properties in lower-density areas with significant wildlife pressure — towns like Pound Ridge, Tuxedo, Montebello, and Woodbury NJ, as well as any home bordering wooded corridors or parks — tend to see the most severe flea problems in the warmer months. But even in more developed areas of Yonkers, Hackensack, and The Bronx, raccoon and opossum populations that move through alleys and yards sustain flea populations at surprising levels. Once fleas establish indoors, the combination of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults in carpet, upholstery, and pet bedding requires a coordinated treatment approach to eliminate all life stages. Hello Pest Control addresses flea infestations both indoors and in the yard environment, targeting the full flea lifecycle so that treated populations don't rebound from hatching pupae weeks after treatment.

How It Works

  1. 1

Inspection of interior (carpets, pet resting areas, upholstered furniture, baseboards) and exterior (yard, mulch beds, crawl space) to assess infestation density and identify key harborage zones.

  2. 2

Indoor treatment with EPA-registered insecticide plus insect growth regulator (IGR) to kill adult fleas and prevent larvae and pupae from developing to adulthood.

  3. 3

Exterior yard treatment targeting flea harborage areas — shaded mulch beds, crawl spaces, pet run areas, and wildlife entry corridors.

  4. 4

Client guidance on concurrent pet treatment (through their veterinarian) and preparation steps — vacuuming, laundering pet bedding — that dramatically improve treatment outcomes.

Flea Control FAQ

My pet is on flea prevention but I still have fleas. How?

Flea prevention on pets kills fleas that jump on your animal, but it doesn't eliminate the eggs, larvae, and pupae already in your home environment. Those life stages can persist for weeks to months in carpet and upholstery, hatching into new adults and restarting the cycle. Indoor treatment addressing all life stages, combined with continued pet prevention, is needed to break the infestation.

How long does it take to get rid of fleas after treatment?

Adult flea activity typically drops sharply within 24–48 hours of treatment. However, you may see new adults emerging for 2–4 weeks as pupae — which are resistant to insecticides — hatch and encounter the treated surfaces. This is normal and expected; the IGR ensures those newly hatched fleas cannot reproduce. Consistent vacuuming in the weeks after treatment accelerates the process.

We don't have pets. Can we still get fleas?

Yes. Wildlife moving through your yard — particularly raccoons and opossums, which are common throughout Westchester and Rockland County — can deposit fleas outdoors. Fleas can then enter your home on clothing or through gaps in the foundation. Previous tenants' pets can also leave flea pupae dormant in carpet for months.

Do I need to treat my yard as well as the inside of my home?

For most properties in this region, yes. If wildlife is moving through your yard and reintroducing fleas, treating only the interior will result in ongoing reinfestation. Outdoor treatment of key harborage areas extends the effectiveness of your indoor treatment significantly.
