River Edge Pest Control

River Edge takes its name from its position directly along the Hackensack River, and the ecological connection to that waterway drives significant pest activity for the borough's homeowners. The riverbank corridor along New Bridge Road and the riverside parks near Veterans Memorial Park supports active Norway rat populations year-round, with rodents moving into residential properties during high water events and seasonal flooding. The low-lying terrain along the river also creates standing water that fuels mosquito populations from late May through September.

The residential streets of River Edge—a mix of older Colonials and Cape Cods from the 1940s-1960s alongside more recent construction—present the typical older-home vulnerabilities of wood-frame construction, partial basements, and aging utility penetrations. Odorous house ants are the most commonly reported pest in River Edge, emerging from the mulched foundation beds and lawn edges each spring in large numbers. Carpenter ants also appear in homes with moisture-damaged wood, particularly near the river corridor where soil moisture is consistently high. Subterranean termites are an ongoing concern for properties with unfinished crawl spaces or wood-to-soil contact in older structures. Ground-nesting yellow jackets are a late-summer issue in the larger yards throughout the borough.
