Dumont Pest Control

Dumont's post-war residential character is the defining factor in its pest challenges. Block after block of compact Cape Cods, ranches, and colonials—most built between 1940 and 1965—line the streets from Washington Avenue to the borders with New Milford and Bergenfield. These older homes have original wood framing, unfinished basements or crawl spaces, and aging utility penetrations that serve as primary entry points for house mice, odorous house ants, and subterranean termites.

Pavement ants are an especially persistent nuisance in Dumont, nesting under the cracked concrete driveways, patio slabs, and curb sections that characterize the borough's aging residential infrastructure. Ant colonies emerge in large numbers from May through September, foraging aggressively into kitchens and basements through foundation gaps. Rodent pressure increases in autumn as house mice seek winter harborage in the wall voids and insulated attics of Dumont's older homes. Termites are discovered regularly in homes along Grant Avenue, Madison Avenue, and the side streets off Washington Avenue—particularly in homes with untreated crawl spaces and wood-to-soil contact from older porch structures. Stink bugs are a seasonal annoyance in autumn, clustering on south-facing siding before entering through window frames and utility penetrations.
