Sloatsburg is uniquely situated — a small, tight-knit community surrounded on three sides by Harriman State Park and the Ramapo Mountains, with Route 17 running through the center as the gateway to the park's southern entrance. The forested backdrop is the defining feature of daily life here, and it creates pest pressure that most Rockland County residents never encounter. Tick density in Sloatsburg is among the highest in the entire Hudson Valley region.
