Orangeburg's residential core — stretching along Orangeburg Road, Greenbush Road, and the neighborhoods surrounding Rockland Community College — consists largely of 1960s–1980s split-levels, colonials, and garden apartment complexes. These homes are at the age where crawl spaces accumulate moisture, sill plates deteriorate, and gaps around utilities invite mice and rats in the fall. Ant activity is a persistent spring and summer complaint, with pavement ants, odorous house ants, and the occasional carpenter ant colony appearing in foundation edges and mulch beds throughout the hamlet.

Mosquito pressure is moderate in Orangeburg, concentrated in yards with standing water from storm drain runoff and low-lying backyards off Greenbush Road and Sickletown Road. Stink bugs begin infiltrating homes and apartments in September, exploiting gaps around window frames and attic vents — a particular nuisance in the garden apartment complexes along Route 303. Rodent activity tends to increase near the commercial areas around Route 303 and the Palisades Center proximity corridor in the fall. Wasp and yellow jacket nests are commonly found in the eaves, decks, and ground-level landscaping of Orangeburg's residential properties throughout July and August.
