Suffern Pest Control

Suffern's historic downtown on Lafayette Avenue and Orange Avenue features some of the oldest residential housing stock in Rockland County — Victorian and craftsman homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s sit alongside post-war colonials and ranchers in neighborhoods like Chestnut Street and Dogwood Lane. Older homes in Suffern commonly have deteriorated wood framing, fieldstone foundations, and crawl spaces that invite carpenter ants, subterranean termites, and mice. The Ramapo River, which winds along the southern edge of the village, provides mosquito breeding habitat from May through September, and the riparian corridor draws wildlife including raccoons, opossums, and groundhogs into residential areas regularly.

Suffern's border position — sharing a boundary with Mahwah, NJ and flanked by Sterling Forest State Park to the northwest — means tick pressure here is among the highest in Rockland County. Black-legged ticks carrying Lyme disease are active from late March through November, and the heavy deer traffic through wooded residential neighborhoods off Hemion Road and Washington Avenue makes tick control a seasonal priority. Stink bugs begin infiltrating attic spaces and wall voids in late August through the Route 17 corridor properties and forested residential streets. Wildlife exclusion calls for squirrels, raccoons, and bats are common in Suffern's older Victorian homes through the spring and summer.
