Wood-Ridge's compact geography—less than a square mile—belies the variety of pest pressures its homeowners encounter. The borough's location directly adjacent to Teterboro Airport to the west means that the cargo and ground service activity at the airport generates rodent harborage in the perimeter buffers between the airfield and the residential streets along Crescent Boulevard and Valley Boulevard. Norway rats and house mice from the airport vicinity migrate into the borough's older residential blocks during winter months.

The housing stock in Wood-Ridge is predominantly 1940s-1960s Cape Cods, ranches, and colonials with aging foundations and utility penetrations that facilitate rodent and ant entry. Odorous house ants are the most frequently reported pest in the borough, emerging each spring from nests under driveways, concrete stoops, and foundation plantings. Subterranean termites are an ongoing concern for older homes with unfinished basements and wood-to-soil contact in porches and fence posts. Stink bugs congregate on southern-facing siding in September before seeking overwintering entry through window frames and utility gaps. Wildlife pressure—primarily squirrels and occasional raccoons—is lower than in more wooded Bergen County communities, but tree canopy along Crescent Boulevard provides some access to rooftops.
