Highbridge Pest Control

Highbridge stretches along the eastern bank of the Harlem River from the High Bridge — the oldest standing bridge in New York City — down to the bustling Ogden Avenue corridor. The neighborhood's southern blocks are home to some of the oldest residential buildings in the Bronx, with 19th-century tenements along Anderson Avenue, Nelson Avenue, and Shakespeare Avenue that have original plumbing and structural voids offering extensive cockroach and rodent harborage. Many of these buildings were converted from single-room-occupancy use and have undergone piecemeal renovations that left pest entry points unsealed.

The neighborhood also contains large public housing developments, including the major complexes near West 167th Street, where bed bug pressure is a recurring concern due to high occupancy and tenant turnover. Highbridge Park — a narrow green corridor hugging the Harlem River — contributes mosquito pressure in summer months and serves as a wildlife corridor for raccoons and opossums that enter buildings through basement-level openings. German cockroaches are endemic throughout much of Highbridge's older building stock, spreading via steam pipe chases and shared walls in pre-war buildings. The extreme density of this neighborhood — among the highest in the Bronx — accelerates the pace of infestation spread between units.
